The competitions are set for May in Tunisia

Kenyan teams begin preparations in earnest ahead of the CAVB African Club Championships after the continental body released dates for this year’s events set to be hosted in Tunis, Tunisia.

The men’s championship has been slated for 9 to 22 May while the women line up for action from 13 to 26 May where Kenyan side KCB are the defending champions.

Kenyan clubs General Service Unit (GSU), Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Trailblazers, the podium finishes in last season’s league are expected to represent the country in Tunis for the men’s competition.

For the women, KCB who lost the national title to Kenya Pipeline, will be out to defend the title they won last year while the oil merchants have vowed to be in the final and fight to reclaim the title after a run of good results locally that saw them claim the title last month.

Kenya Pipeline head coach Paul Gitau says the team is fully focused on improving on their third-place finish with a final berth.

“We have agreed as a team, after resuming training that the target is improved performance at the continental front and that means featuring in the final. We have delivered on the promise to get back to the top locally and now the focus shifts to the continental scene.

Last year’s performance was an eye opener to the young players who had not competed at that level and now they will be ready to take on any opponent.

As we head to this year's competition, I believe in the manpower I have to deliver on our targets. I have the right players and we have a plan and a clear pathway as to how we will reach the final,” Gitau said.
