Kenya unveils powerhouse squads for FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup, eyes Paris 2024 Olympics qualification

The Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) has revealed its formidable men's and women's teams set to compete in the upcoming FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup

The Kenya Basketball Federation on Wednesday 29 November announced their men's and women's teams that will represent the country in the FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup, expected to act as a 2024 Paris Olympics Qualifying tournament.

The team of eight (four in each category) will jet out to Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday night, in readiness for the 10-nation tournament tipping off on 1-3 December.

Making the men's team will be Ariel Ortega, US-based Albert Odero, Faheem Juma and Victor Ochieng.

The women's team will be represented by Lithuania-based Mercy Wanyama, Natalie Akinyi, Hilda Indasi and Zetech's Madina Okot.

The coaches leading the team will be Zaddock Adika (men) and Everlyne Kedogo (women).

"We are entering a very critical time in the race to making the Olympics," Kenya Basketball Federation Secretary General Angela Luchivya said. "We have been in both residential and non-residential training for the past two months and we are looking forward to getting nothing short than clinching the championship."

Ranked second in Africa, the women's team will need to finish above leaders Egypt and win the tournament to get a chance to represent Kenya in the Olympics.

The men's team will need a similar outcome to get through the Universality Olympic tournament slated for early next year.

"We have had one of the most competitive training camps and through our internal selection got the best team to take us through. We have with us the best shooters, post players and the team chemistry is brilliant."

Kenya's last sujourn in the Africa Cup was with the women's team; who made the quarter finals, eventually losing 15-14 to Madagascar.
