The national league is set to curtain-raise the second edition of the Eldoret City Volleyball tournament that will be played on December 2-3 at the same venue
Kenya Prisons Women's Volleyball ended their month in style by seeing off stubborn Maranatha in the women's Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) national league that resumed at the Eldoret Polytechnic on November 30.
The first leg was played on November 2-3 at the Koitaleel Arap Samoei University College in Mosoriot, Nandi County.
The spirited ladies swept aside Maranatha 3-0 to resume their title hunt on a high.
They are coming from two wins in the first leg, and also got a walkover against Bunge Volleyball Club.
Speaking after the win, Kenya Prisons' coach Josp Baraza praised his charges for picking the opening three points, noting that it would motivate them to go for more. He pointed out that they would improve on speed, services, and reception to help them bag more wins.
"We are here to push and get points. Our target is to win and qualify for the playoffs. Today I did not play well because the other team was a bit low. We will work on our speed and services, and reception," Baraza offered.
At the same time, their brothers Kenya Prisons men started on the wrong footing, going down to Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in a match that went down to five sets of (25:22, 21:25, 16:25, 25:21, 15:8).
They will be keen to bounce back on Friday.
Eldoret City Volleyball defending champions Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) started on a low with a loss to the General Service Unit (GSU) in straight sets of 25-23, 25-23, and 25-20. They will be counting on their history of victory in similar terrain to propel them to victory.
The KVF national league is set to curtain-raise the second edition of the Eldoret City Volleyball tournament that will be played on December 2-3 at the same venue.
KVF Vice President Paul Bitok confirmed that more than a hundred teams had confirmed participation in the tournament; including three teams from Uganda.
"We will be starting our tournament on Saturday. Already, 100 teams have registered. We have three international teams from Uganda. Although it is in its first edition, the tournament is turning out to be an international one starting this year," the former Malkia Strikers coach said.
He was also grateful to the County Government of Uasin Gishu for their support towards the event. The devolved unit paid registration fees for 60 teams.
The county's volleyball team which emerged winners in the 9th edition of the Kenya Inter County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games held in Meru in August, will also grace the competition.
Kenya Defence Forces and Kenya Pipeline bagged the men and women titles of the inaugural Eldoret City Open Volleyball Tournament that was held at the Eldoret Sports Club on 4 and 5 December 2022.
