The Kenya Volleyball Federation Women's League is scheduled to serve off at Nyayo National Stadium on 25 and 26 February
As the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women’s league gets underway on the weekend, champions Kenya Pipeline open their season against Prisons Nairobi before taking on Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The league is scheduled to serve off at Nyayo Stadium on 25 and 26 February, five weeks after the delayed playoffs that saw the oilers crowned champions, ending a five-year wait.
Head coach Paul Gitau says he is preparing a team that can perform well on all fronts, even as the team prepares for the CAVB Club Championships set for May in Tunisia.
Ahead of the local league serve off, Gitau said that his side is the team to beat but that does not make them complacent.
“This is a new season with more teams, some new. We have to work on all our players and have a squad that can play high level volleyball in all competitions.
We are the champions because we won all our matches last season. I think team to beat is Pipeline but we have to remain focused and prepare for all the opponents.
We play some young teams like DCI who have improved, recently but they cannot compete with the squad I have right now. Maybe in a year or so they will,” Gitau told the club’s media ahead of the weekend action.
In a different interview on the same platform earlier this week, the tactician indicated that the club’s focus is on the continental assignment
The women’s club competition is set for 13 to 26 May in Tunisia where Pipeline, holders KCB and Prisons Kenya are expected to represent the country.
“Planning our preparations has gotten better and easier after the dates were announced. We now have a programme that puts into consideration when the squad should start loading, working on speed, strength, endurance and all that.
I am not counting the days to the local league but the number of days I have to prepare the team for Tunisia,” the tactician had offered.
