Kenya Pipeline bank hundreds of thousands after edging KCB in Mozzart Cup final

The oilers saved the best for the last, unleashing their might in the final set to dethrone the bankers
Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) are the new Mozzart Kenya Cup champions following their hard fought 3-2 win over KCB in the final, played on Sunday, 25 July at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.
KCB cruised to the final following a 3-2 win over Kenya Prisons, in the semi final, while KPC edged the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to book a place in the ultimate match.

The immediate former champions began the match on a high and went ahead to secure a 25-23 win in the opening set.
However, their performance dwindled in the second,suffering a 12-25 loss to the spirited oilers.
Buoyed by their triumph in the second set, KPC remained the better side but a strong finish saw KCB win 25-21.
The entertaining nature of the prestigious cup continued, as KPC regained their cool and delivered a classic performance to grab a 25-24 set score win in the fourth set, taking the battle to the fifth set.
KPC unleashed their best in the final set, coming from behind to secure a 15-11 set score to not only clinch the trophy, but also the biggest chunk of the prize money.
DCI put up a spirited fight in their third place playoff against Kenya Prisons to bag the bronze medal.
DCI featured in the playoff after suffering defeat to Kenya Pipeline Corporation (KPC) in the semi final, while Kenya Prisons were defeated by outgoing champions KCB Volleyball in the last four.

DCI began the match strongly and comfortably cruised to a 25-22 victory in the first set before bagging the second set with a 25-23 score set.
Not to go down without a fight, the experienced Kenya Prisons put in a spirited fight in the third set which they dominated and eventually won with a 25-9 score set.
DCI were a much more improved side in the fourth set but that could not prevent them from suffering 26-24 defeat, laying ground for an epic final round.
Prisons wasted a glorious moment to seal the game but they threw away a 14-11 lead and eventually lost with a 19-17 scoreline.
For their Mozzart Kenya Cup glory, KPC bagged Ksh300,000 while the Bankers took Ksh200,000.
