The team, which has been practising at Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club for the past two weeks under coach Ali Mohsin Khimji, has been in action since Tuesday, 25, and will wrap up their activities on Saturday, 29 November, at the Golf du Rova Luxury Hotel.
In August, coach Khimnji also led Kenya’s junior team to a second-place finish in the inaugural Africa Region Four Junior Championship in Mauritius.
Lejirma goes to battle alongside Michael Karanga, Elvis Muigua, and junior international Junaid Manji.
Manji, who was in the junior team in last year’s All Africa Championship at Benoni Country Club in South Africa, is making his first appearance for the senior team.
He replaces Adel Balala, who was part of Kenya’s winning team at Kigali Golf Resort in 2024.
Kenya won the cup for the third straight edition in Rwanda last year and enters the championship as the firm favourite.
Their winning streak began in Uganda in 2022, continued in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2023, and was solidified with a commanding victory at the Kigali Golf Resort and Villas in Rwanda back in October 2024.
Last year, the Kenyan team, then comprising Karanga, Lejirmah, Muigua, and Balala, posted an impressive overall score of 841 gross, decisively beating regional rivals Uganda and Rwanda.
Karanga, arguably Kenya's top amateur in the last two years, was the standout individual performer in that tournament, finishing with a remarkable total score of 276 (-12) after a brilliant final round of 66, which was instrumental in fending off a strong challenge from the Ugandan team.
Even with nine countries, hosts Madagascar, defending champions Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Mauritius, Reunion, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Seychelles participating, the historic rivalry between Kenya and Uganda is expected to be a central feature of the competition.
Uganda, who last won in 2019, have consistently finished second to Kenya and has sent a strong four-man team, including Joseph Kasozi, Antony Otukei, Reagan Akena, and debutant Godfrey Kambale, with the explicit goal of reclaiming the title.
