Kenya land favourable draw as African volleyball championship serves off

Kenya will start their campaign against Rwanda on Wednesday.

National women's volleyball team, Malkia Strikers have been placed in Pool 'B' of the CAVB Africa Nations Championship set to serve off on Wednesday 16 August in Yaounde, Cameroon.  

The top-ranked team in Africa at the moment will face off with Morocco, Rwanda, Uganda, debutants Burkina Faso and Lesotho in the group stage. 

Meanwhile, defending champions Cameroon who are also the hosts of this year's competition and are unbeaten in the last three editions headline Pool ‘A’ that also has DR Congo, Nigeria, Algeria, Burundi, Mali and Egypt.

Kenya will start their campaign against Rwanda on Wednesday in a repeat of their last friendly match played on Tuesday where Kenya won 3-0 (25-14, 27-25, 25-14). 

"From Morocco all the way to Yaounde, preparations have been good. From today's friendly, I am confident that the squad is ready and this win gives us confidence," assistant coach Paul Bitok offered after the friendly match. 

The second match for the Luizomar de Moura-coached Malkia will be against Burundi before they face off with Uganda, Morocco and finally Lesotho. 

The top four teams in each pool will then proceed to the knock-out stages with the top placed pool A side playing the fourth-placed pool B team and vice versa. The second place finishers face the third-placed team in a similar set-up.
