Otula leaves behind a legacy of academic excellence and sports mentorship that spanned decades. He was renowned for seamlessly blending classroom with extracurricular development and community engagement.

His impact on the education sector was far-reaching. Otula served as chief principal in some of the country’s most respected institutions, including Mang’u High School in Kiambu County, Maseno School in Kisumu County, and Sunshine Secondary School in Nairobi County.

In every school he led, he left a mark as a transformative leader who championed discipline, innovation, and student-centred growth.

Beyond the school walls, Otula was an influential figure in Kenyan sports, particularly basketball.

Since 2010, he had been the chairperson of the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF), where he steered numerous initiatives to grow the sport at both grassroots and national levels.

Under his leadership, Kenya's basketball profile expanded significantly, with a renewed focus on youth development and institutional structures.

Otula also had a footprint on the global stage. As an active member of the Global Connections Network, an international association of school heads, he was a regular voice in global education forums and a respected advocate for modern teaching methods.

He authored several publications and facilitated countless workshops aimed at equipping educators with the tools to deliver impactful learning.

Tributes continue to pour in for a man many describe as a visionary, a mentor, and a passionate servant of youth empowerment.

Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
