
Joe Mboya, Ruth Mbeti dominate Machakos' NCBA Golf Series

Top winners from each leg will qualify for the Grand Finale scheduled for 28 November
Joe Mboya and Ruth Mbeti emerged top in the men’s and ladies’ categories, respectively, as the NCBA Golf Series made its latest stop at the Machakos Golf Club this weekend, attracting over 100 players from the club’s golfing community.
Playing off handicap 17, Mboya carded an impressive 44 points to clinch the Overall Winner title in the men’s category.

He was closely followed by Ben Mumo (hcp 17) with 42 points, while David Mwangangi (hcp 14) also posted 42 points to finish third on countback. Maruti Litali (hcp 20) rounded off the top four with a solid 41 points.
Commenting on his triumph, Mboya expressed his delight at the win, saying, “It is always a great feeling to come out on top, especially on your home course,” he said.
“The conditions were perfect, and the NCBA Golf Series adds that extra competitive edge that makes you want to bring your A-game. I am grateful to NCBA for creating this platform, and I look forward to competing at the Grand Finale.”
In the ladies’ category, Mbeti, playing off handicap 33, claimed the Overall Lady Winner title with 40 points, while Mercy Nderitu (hcp 33) finished as Runner-up with 35 points.
“I have been working hard on my game, and today it came together. Winning here at home and being part of such a well-organised event is incredibly fulfilling.
It was a tough field today—there were so many good players. The course conditions were fair but tested every part of my game, especially on the back nine.
I had to stay very focused. I am really happy with how I played, and I am excited to keep this momentum going in future events,” said Mbeti, speaking on her win.
The tournament also saw exceptional performances in the nines challenge. Eng. Okemwa, playing off handicap 32, secured the First Nine Winner prize with 25 points, while Henry Chipinde (hcp 46) matched that score on the back nine to take home the Second Nine Winner accolade.
The Machakos leg marked the ninth stop in the 2025 NCBA Golf Series calendar, which continues to attract strong participation from amateur golfers across the country. Top winners from each leg will qualify for the Grand Finale scheduled for 28 November 2025.
Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony, the NCBA Machakos Branch Manager, Alex Muema, thanked the club and participants for their enthusiastic turnout and reaffirmed NCBA's commitment to the sport.

The NCBA Golf Series continues next weekend with action scheduled at Kakamega Sports Club, maintaining momentum as players eye the coveted spots in the series finale.
