NOC-K executives were invited to the International Olympic body headquarters
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Thomas Bach, has expressed his own and the IOC's satisfaction with the transformation that the National Olympic Committee of Kenya has achieved over the last 7 years.
NOC-K executives were invited to the International Olympic body headquarters to familiarize themselves with the operations and programs at the top level of the world sporting organization as well as, meet and interact with the various heads of departments and IOC leadership.
This was aimed at enhancing the existing collaborations and partnerships that NOC-K and IOC have built and solidified over the last 7 years of turnaround.
Speaking, when he received a delegation from the NOC-K Executive Committee Members in Lausanne, Switzerland, in a historic visit to the Olympic House this week, Bach noted that within a short time, Kenyan committee had become a model member of the global sporting body with over 200 Olympic members across the world.
The IOC noted that at the time of the new leadership, Kenya was on the brink of being excluded from membership and support of IOC owing to failure to uphold the expected tenets of the Olympic Movement as stipulated in the guiding Olympic Charter, particularly on best governance practices.
He said he was very impressed with the enhanced absorption and reporting system of programs carried out by the National Olympic body in Kenya in the period in focus plus its very transparent processes.
NOC-K President Paul Tergat expressed gratitude to the IOC and Bach, for the patience and support during the turnaround exercise.
He assured the IOC of NOC-K’s athlete-centered approach in line with the IOC Agenda 2020+5 strategic direction framework.
The NOC-K Executive was also presented various achievements and future plans geared towards further growth and development of the organization, Kenyan sports, and athletes to the various IOC departments, especially the Olympic Solidarity that runs the IOCs programs for NOCs.
As a result, NOC-K was able to unlock more grants of support to the various Olympic values-centered programs, which will continue growing the robust unveiled programs by NOC-K.
