Gladiators bounce back to winning ways after beating Badgers
Strathmore University Scorpions struck three minutes to the final whistle to hold record Kenyan champions Blazers to a 1-1 draw in a Kenya Hockey Union women's Premier League encounter played on Sunday at City Park.
Blazers were on the verge of humbling the students but Jeriah Onsare's goal from a short corner ensured the league leaders picked a point from the highlight game of the day.
Blazers who lost 2-0 to Scorpions in the first leg had taken the lead through Barbra Simiyu in the 43rd minute, where the forward also scored from a short corner.
In the men's Premier League, the 2016 champions Strathmore University Gladiators narrowly edged the struggling Parkroad Badgers 1-0 at City Park. Brian Ongeche netted the sole goal of the encounter in the 40th minute from the spot.
The clash pitting Parkroad Tigers and Wazalendo Masters in the men's Super League ended in a 2-2 draw. Masters got their goals through Willy Mutua and Chris Kuria while Tigers got theirs through William Oketch and Paul Gumba.
Kenyatta University beat Kisumu Youngsters by a sole goal at the Kisumu Day grounds. Richard Abudi made the difference between the two teams as he struck the winning goal in the 36th minute.
Similarly, JKUAT beat Technical University 1-0 with Cyrus Warui netting the winning goal in the 51st minute.
In the Women's Super League, University of Nairobi edged fellow students in JKUAT 2-1 in an encounter played at City Park.
UoN got their goals through Cynthia Ejai and Clementin Sims while the Thika Road based institution scored the consolation goal through Lucky Adhiambo.
Bay Club played Blue Pirates to a barren draw in a nationwide clash staged in Kisumu. Kitale Hockey Club lost 2-1 to University of Eldoret.
