Queens and NCPB lead the women's and men's standings after unbeaten runs of eight and nine games respectively.

Holders Nairobi Water Queens continued their superiority in the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) women's league, beating their closest challenger Ulinzi Sharks 31-27.

The closely contested and highly awaited fixture saw the soldiers trail by a single goal at the end of the first half in a 18-17 scoreline to set the stage for a thrilling sexond half whose result could have gone either way.

It was the defending champions, however, who came off the locker room guns blazing to score 16 while restricting the soldiers to ten to make it eight wins in a row and hush any doubters after the two side's last meeting that ended with Queens taking a slim one-goal victory to win the Super Cup earlier this year.

Skipper Gladys Chilo and Brenda Ariviza led the scoring for Jack Ochieng's charges with 11 and seven goals respectively to aid the side bag yet another important win that could see them go the season unbeaten for the umpteenth time.

Euphrasia Mukasia and Caren Lutengeya contributed eight a piece for the military side, with perennial top scorer for the Yusuf Kipruto led side, Sarah Wasike restricted to just four goals.

In other matches, Kenyatta University (K.U) who were playing their first league match this season managed to open their account with victory over New Hope in a 42-07 outcome.

The Robert Osano-coached side had Claire Wanyonyi lead their attack with 13 goals as Anastacia Kemunto and Celyne Wabuke scoring seven and six for the varsity side.

In the other women's league match, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) walked away with maximum points after opponents Nairobi County Council (NCC) were a no-show.

In the men's league, Technical University of Kenya (TUK) were no-match for holders National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) as they went down 43-19 in a highly one-sided encounter.

John Wante and Brian Wakhuka led the scoring with seven goal as Peter Omondi added six to the tally for the win.

K.U men picked a win in their season-opening match, subjecting Thika HC to a 34-29 defeat. Bethwell Kiprop and Amos Keter scored eight each as Maurice Opwaka added seven to the tally.
