The side has missed out on the league title since their last championship in 2016 with Black Mamba and NCPB lifting the succeeding editions
Former national handball men’s league champions, Ulinzi, HC are looking to end their trophy drought this season with coach Nixon Oyaro admitting it will be no walk in the park.
The military side is currently second on the log with 27 points, one behind leaders General Service Unit (GSU) who have played one more match. The side has dropped points once in a draw against Strathmore University.
“We still have a long way to go (10 matches) in our quest for the title so focus is key. We have to win all our remaining matches to assure ourselves of lifting the elusive title,” Oyaro offered.
The tactician who guided his side to the pre-season Super Cup title, defeating nemesis National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) who remain favourites this season says their focus is not on this fixture alone.
“Every team is tough in this league so we cannot approach any match as more important than the other. We take it one match at a time, without any complacency. Yes, there are some key teams we are yet to face but we will handle them when it is their turn. We haven’t lost a match and we want to keep it that way,” Oyaro told Mozzart Sport.
Holders NCPB, newbies Equity HC and the military side are the three unbeaten sides in the KHF men’s league. With Oyaro’s charges yet to face the two as well as leaders GSU who have lost once, they have their work cut out in the quest for the title.
“It will be no walk in the park. Each team is out to get the title and they will be hard to defeat in the homestretch. However, the players have the right mindset and despite missing some due to other work commitments, I have a championship-winning squad so we should hold our own against our title challengers,” he concluded.
