
Handball: Equity continue unbeaten run as NYS win

Action continues on Sunday with the bankers entertaining Nanyuki in one of six matches set for the day
Desert Scorpions venom was no match for the sting of newbies Equity Bank as the Peter Mwathi-coached bankers raced to a 37-23 victory to continue their unbeaten streak.
Maxwell Munene led the scoring for Mwathi's charges, scoring seven as Radzi Stower and Rashid Ingwela added six a piece to the final tally for the side's sixth win in as many matches.
The bankers endured a slow start that saw Scorpions keep them close early in the half but after settling down, Equity managed to to pull away for a 18-11 first half lead.
"We struggled in the beginning of the match as we started with a slow tempo and it became difficult to adjust hence the close match at the start.
Increasing the tempo mid-match is costly as a team is prone to making mistakes that way. However, this was a learning moment as we now have to make sure we start with the right pace in each match," Equity'sKevin Obungha offered after the match while attributing the team's unbeaten run to the team chemistry the players drawn from Strathmore University had prior to joining the new outfit.
Martin Orera was Scorpions' top scorer with seven as Stephen Wanyama added six in the side's loss.
Coach Mwathi, in his post-match comments, said that the team is still a work in progress, admitting that their strength and conditioning sessions are paying off.
In other men's league matches, Nanyuki continued their unbeaten run with a third win, beating Hunters 45-30 in a dominant display of handball action.
Nanyuki led by 11 goals at halftime with the score reading 23-12, returning for spectacular show in the second half to add 22 to the tally. Hunters played a better half, scoring 18 but it was too little too late to change the trajectory of the game.
Cyrus Mwangi led the scores with 10 goals, two more than Collins Kimeu as Samson Krop, who did not finish the match following a red card for collecting three two-minute suspensions, scored six. Ezra Omondi was Hunters' tip scorer with seven.

In similar fashion, Buccaneers made it four in their unbeaten streak as they picked a third victory, their fourth being a draw, in a closely fought 28-23 outcome against Young City. Randy Ochieng scored 10 in the win.
Meanwhile, Amos Okwako powered Daystar Falcons to victory, scoring eight goals in a 27-25 outcome against Spartans as the varsity side subjected the latter to their third loss of the season in as many matches.
The Martin Kamau-coached Daystar came from a goal behind in the second half to force the win by two goals. This is the side's third victory in six matches on their debut season.
In the women’s league, Amazon won 27-22 in a match that their opponents Daystar choked in the second half. The match was tied 13-13 at half time but it was the Benjamin Wanje's charges who came back stronger for the win.
Vivian Muntet top scored for her side and in the match, with nine goals as Nelly Karisa added five for the win.
Elsewhere, National Youth Service (NYS) dominated their match against New Hope for a 32-18 outcome, this being their second win of the season in seven matches. The side has lost thrice and drew twice.
