League action paves way for two days of the Malaba tournament that is expected to attract more than 50 teams.

After close to three months of inaction in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) 2023/24 league season, action returns with all roads leading to Busia County for the Malaba league-cum tournament.

This is the third leg of the season that commenced last year but was put on hold to allow for the national teams, Wafalme Stars and Malkia Strikers, time to prepare for the CAVB Zone Five Africa Games qualifiers.

The league matches are set for February 15 and 16 with the tournament, involving community clubs and institutions, taking center stage on the weekend.

Former champions General Service Unit (GSU) and Trailblazers have expressed confidence in keeping their winning runs going, setting the stage for some interesting clashes as the two sides clashing on the final day of league action.

Coach Gideon Tarus admits that the weekend's matches are not to be taken lightly, urging his charges to avoid complacency.

"The target is to pick maximum points in all remaining matches. They are not easy matches but I am confident in my squad and they will deliver," the tactician told Mozzart Sport.

The paramilitary side is set to play Kenya Army, Mt Kenya Base Yetu and Trailblazers.

Trailblazers, on their part, will see their unbeaten run put to test when they face defending champions Kenya Prisons, former champions GSU and tricky Administration Police of Kenya(APK)

The Geoffrey Omondi-coached side, who are second on the log with 15 points from five matches, will take on fifth-placed APK in the first match on Thursday before they face-off with Kenya Prisons, who are third with 15 points from six outings, in the second fixture.

“We have four tough matches but we are handling them one at a time. We are confident of posting wins despite the opposition we face. We are prepared and ready to face the challenge ahead,” head coach Omondi said ahead of the clashes.

On Friday, the second day of league action, Trailblazers face off with Prisons Nairobi while former champions GSU in the afternoon.
