Prisons Kenya were crowned the new champions, breaking a five-season dominance by Tarus' charges.
For the first time in the last six Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) seasons, General Service Unit (GSU) are not the men’s league champions.
The Gideon Tarus-led side was finally dethroned by Kenya Prisons after five consecutive titles, finishing third behind runners-up Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).
As Tarus reflected on the season that was, he acknowledged that both Prisons and KPA were the better sides during the playoffs, adding that the long layoff before this week’s season-closing action affected the form his side had at the conclusion of the regular season.
GSU had their chase for a 17th national title stopped and have now shifted their focus to the new season set to start after October 14's technical meeting.

“This will be a rebuilding season for us. We are likely to miss five players who featured in the just-concluded season, probably early next year, so I have to recruit before the season begins. I am well aware that this process takes time for a team to find its rhythm, which is what we will be seeking in the new season,” the tactician said.
Mozzart Sport can confirm that the paramilitary side has acquired the services of Obadiah Bundotich from last season’s bronze medalists, the Trailblazers, as Tarus begins his rebuilding process.
The youngster featured for the Moneybags in the just-concluded season and was crucial to their wins, despite it being his first season in the top-tier league.
