NCPB and Nairobi Water are the defending champions
Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) pre-season tournament, the Super Cup has been scheduled to throw off on 20 May, a week after the competition’s initial date.
General Service Unit (GSU) team manager Nicholas Kimeli says the extension is a blessing in disguise for his squad that has suffered a few injuries ahead of the crucial matches.

Having finished the regular league in third place behind holders National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and Ulinzi HC, the paramilitary side is keen to bag their first gong since joining the league.
“After taking part in the Police championships in Rwanda we took a break to have the players rest after a long season. We have since resumed training and have been preparing well for the last two weeks with the title in mind.
Having the extra week to prepare gives us confidence that the players who were nursing some knocks from training and those coming back from some serious injuries will be fully fit for the challenge,” offered Kimeli.
George Asimeto, in charge of fixtures at KHF says the push was necessitated to accord teams a bit more time to prepare while also considering the weather patterns so that there are few interruptions on the two weekends.
“The weather in the last few weeks has not been favourable and as such most teams have had their training schedules interrupted. We are hoping to stick to this new timeline. The team remain six for the men and four for women,” Asimeto explained.
NCPB will look to bag another double, having won the league unbeaten, dropping only one point in the last game that ended in a 30-all draw against rivals Ulinzi.
The military side, on their part, buoyed by that final league match result, look to dethrone the millers with GSU and Strathmore University also out to prove themselves against the champions.
In the women’s league, holders Nairobi Water Queens remain the favourites with the toughest test likely to come from Ulinzi Sharks who have previously come close but are yet to pick a win against the Jack Ochieng-coached side.
