The much-anticipated clash lived up to its billing as St. Joseph’s struck early in the fifth minute through Joy Vallery, who converted a penalty stroke to calm the nerves.

Audrey Greener doubled the advantage with a fine field goal, but Tigoi hit back just before halftime as Beatrice Oside pulled one back.

The champions restored parity when Lavenda Philly scored the equaliser eight minutes into the second half.

The contest looked set for a tense finish until Greener grabbed her second in the 50th minute to restore Kitale’s lead.

Tigoi had a golden chance to level from a penalty stroke in the 57th minute, but Brender Mmbuga was denied by Ruth Atieno, as St. Joseph’s claimed a 3–2 victory in one of the tournament’s most thrilling matches so far.

Elsewhere in girls’ hockey, Ng’iya and Mwiki played out to a goalless draw, Kakungulu thumped Bweranyangi 4–1, and Mushanga overcame Namagunga 2–0.
