The bankers are now likely to finish higher than the military side in the regular league rankings.

Former Kenya Basketball Feneration (KBF) men’s league champions Ulinzi Warriors could not protect their own turf against the marauding Equity Dumas, losing 58-57 in an entertaining clash played at Ulinzi Complex.

Antonio Bwire, who scored seven in the match stepped on the free-throw, with a second to go for three points to sent the match into extra time but missed his final throw, the rebound landing on Faheem Juma for the match to end in a win for Dumas.

Warriors led 15-12 in the first quarter and the two sides played for a 13 all draw for the military side to lead by a slim three points into the half time break of the low-scoring encounter.

Coach Isaac Munywoki’s, who was on the touchline for the bankers, pep-talk worked magic for the bankers as they came back to the court charged to score 25 points while restricting Warriors to ten.

The military side snapped back into action for the final period and kept their foot on the gas in an attempt for a comeback, scoring 19 against eight and come so close to snatching the victory or at least sending the match to extra time.

“Ulinzi played well. They are well coached and they executed better than us. We did not handle the match well, had too many turnovers and that allowed Warriors back into the game. In the last quarter for instance we went four minutes without scoring. This was a match won by a missed free throw so we cannot say we were good,” Dumas coach offered after the match.

James Mwangi was the banker’s top scorer with 15 points for Dumas against his former team with Juma and Lenson Kisia adding 12 and 11 for the win. Byron Wasilwa and Derrick Ochieng led the scoring 13 and 12 respectively.
