Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term One basketball champions Dr Aggrey are itching for revenge as they prepare to lock horns with arch-rivals Buddo in the upcoming Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) games.

The two basketball powerhouses clashed in a thrilling final in 2022, with Buddo emerging victorious to dash Dr. Aggrey’s hopes of clinching the East African title.

With only five days to go to the competitive games, Dr. Aggrey is leaving no stone unturned in making their third East Africa appearance in style. This time, they have been placed in Pool B together with Janan Secondary School, Laiser Hill, and Buddo of Uganda.

In an exclusive interview with Mozzart Sport, the team’s coach Kevin Aran admitted that the loss was a bitter pill to swallow, but they had worked on the areas that let them down.

“This year we are pooled together with Buddo, and we are focused and determined to revenge,” Aran offered.

To achieve that, Aran noted that they had a two-week camp to sharpen their skills.

“We are well prepared compared to last year's competitions. Our defense has always been a problem, but this time round we've worked on it and made some adjustments. And endurance to the game. We’ve also played so many friendlies (competitive) so as to strengthen and harden the boys,” he averred.

The team competes in the Mombasa Basketball Trophy and Aran was confident that the experience gained would come in handy.

“Winning the East Africa championship and also retaining the Mombasa basketball trophy is part of our plan. We will be playing our finals against KPA Youth once we are done with the East Africa games. The players are well-prepared and psyched up. This being our third appearance in the tournament, we are very confident of winning the trophy,” he revealed.

Aran who is a former basketballer further noted that they were not underestimating any team, assuring that they will take each day at a time.

“Every team that participates in the tournament is well prepared. There is no weak team. That means we had to work extra hard in terms of preparedness so as to be sure of winning the trophy. I am glad that some players like Deng Akok and Collins Maina have tremendously improved,” he concluded.

They will also be keen to improve on their third-place finish in the 2023 East Africa games held in Huye, Rwanda.
