Dolphins Swim Club clinch overall title in Kiambu Age Group Championships

The Kenya Swimming Federation has also sanctioned the Aberdare Swimming Championships set for later this year

Dashing Dolphins Swim Club were crowned the overall winners of the Kenya Swimming Federation Kiambu Age Group Invitational Championships staged this weekend at the M-Pesa Foundation Academy in Thika.

With a total of 74 medals, Dolphins led the way in the combined men plus women standings by virtue of scooping 45 gold medals, while Super Marlins Swim Club and Aga Khan Academy came in second and third place with 43 and 18 golds each.

Cumulatively, Super Marlins won 98 medals - 34 being silver and 21 bronze medals.

In the men’s category, Super Marlins Swim Club won the overall title with 48 medals, ahead of Dashing Dolphins and Pio Swimming Club who garnered 40 and 20 medals respectively.

The county championships, which were intended to select the best crop of swimmers for the national team time trials, had a total of 11 schools/clubs represented, with some of the swimmers participating unattached.

“I salute you all for the support you have accorded to Kenya Swimming Federation- Kiambu County and it was evident with the spectacular age group gala held this weekend at Mpesa Foundation Academy Thika,” KSF Kiambu Branch Competition Secretary Shadrack Mutiso said of the two-day event.

“The KSF Kiambu galas are becoming better and bigger every season.”

With the gala done, Mutiso also announced in a letter to all stakeholders that a sizable number of swimmers have qualified for the upcoming Nationals trials slated for 20-21 May, 2023 at Kasarani Aquatics Arena.

Over 50 swimmers from participating clubs (Super Marlins - 12, Dolphins - 10 and Pio Swimming Club -6) will add up to the group of other swimmers from other counties that also held time trial events in the past weeks.

As reported on Mozzart Sport, the Kenyan team after the trials is expected to participate in the upcoming World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka in July, with the World Short Course Championships, Israel following thereafter in September.

The next meet for Kiambu County will be the KSF Kiambu Minnows Swimming Championship slated to run on Saturday 10th June, 2023 at Crawford International School.
