Makokha advanced to the quarterfinal stage which will be played in match-play format.

Deaf Golf Federation are in advanced stages of plans to introduce the game among Deaf ladies and children.

Kenya Golf Deaf Federation president Daniel Ogembo announced on the sidelines of the team stroke play where Kenya was represented by star Isaac Makokha, Gilbert Alikula while Adan Wario dropped out because of injury.

“When we go back to Kenya, we want to start a program for the ladies. Right now, we only have men here, we feel like it is important to include ladies so that next time we have more ladies becoming golfers,” Ogembo said.

He continued, “We need gender balance because some countries have brought ladies. This competition has been a learning experience. We want to start a training program for junior Deaf golfers and we are going to partner with some schools.”

His sentiments were echoed by coach Vincent Wang’ombe who is also the Kenya Golf Union's chief executive officer. “We need to get more Deaf golfers playing this game. We want Deaf children to start playing while young. We have started a program with Isaac to train Deaf children."

Unfortunately, Wario pulled out of the competition due to injury while Alikula was eliminated after stroke play.

Wario suffered a deep cut on the finger on the last day of training before the first round of competition. He pulled out of competition in hole 14 due to excessive bleeding after the wound opened up.

Makokha advanced to the quarterfinal stage which will be played in match-play format until end of competition.

Wang’ombe and Wario backed Makokha to win a medal for the country.
