Record holder Simon Cherono Kibai successfully defended his men's 10000m title at the ongoing 24th Summer Deaflympics Games in Caxias Do Sul, Brazil.

Kibai led compatriots Peter Toroitich and David Kipkogei to a podium finishes, the clean medal sweep being a replica performance of the 2017 Deaflympics in Samsun Turkey, where Kibai led Daniel Kitum and Toroitich to the podium.

Kenyan ambassador to Brazil Lemarron Kaanto on Sunday evening 8 May led a capacity crowd to cheer the trio during the high octane race.

The timings of the competition are held by the deaf world governing body ICSD until doping test outcomes of all the participating athletes are known.

"I was out to win the race. I am glad I did so. What I do not know is if I broke the record again," Kibai said.

Toroitich who was happy to have run his own race that earned him a silver said, " I give our coach Samuel Kibet all the credit, he helped us to stay focus and inspired ahead of the competition."

Kipkogei said he had a nagging injury that really pushed him back from the leading pack.

"But I am glad I still finished within the medal bracket," he said.

Elsewhere, Kelvin Kipkogei threw 51.30m to win bronze in men's javelin.

"I followed all the instructions from the coach and this is what led me to the podium in my first international event," Kelvin said.
