The medal haul by this year's champion was one of its kind, surpassing last year's total by 28 medals
Dashing Dolphins emerged overall champions of the third edition of the Kiambu Inter-county Swimming Championships held over the weekend at Regis Runda Academy.
The annual championship, renowned for attracting top-tier swimmers in the East African region, as reported by Mozzart Sport involved teams from neighboring Uganda and Tanzania, with Victoria Swimming Club from Mwanza being among the late entrants.
Led by experienced coach Noel, it was Dashing Dolphins however, who ranked highest in the competition, winning a total of 107 medals—24 gold, 43 silver, and 40 bronze.
The medal haul was the first of its kind in the championships, upstaging the total of 79 that defending champions Seahorses Aquatics from Machakos garnered in 2023.
Following closely in second place this year was Super Marlins Swim Club, who took home 71 medals, with upcomers NextGen Multi Sport Academy showing their mettle in third place with 26 medals.
Speaking of his team’s win, Noel said: “I am incredibly impressed with what we did. Topping both categories (boys and girls) of this championship is a milestone for us, and it’s an event we eagerly look forward to every year. Watching it grow bigger and better with each edition has been incredible.”
Valentine Wambui, coach of Super Marlins, on the other hand, said: “This year’s gala was incredibly competitive, but this is just the beginning as we aim to prepare for other major international meets.”
Down the road this month is the Kenya National Swimming Championships, which will act as a selection meet for the 9th Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Swimming Championship in Bujumbura, Burundi.
Also on the schedule are three galas: the Kiambu Minnows Swimming Championship on November 23rd at Potterhouse School Runda, the Kiambu Masters on December 7th, and the East African Chipkizi Championship in Arusha in December.
