The event, organized annually to honour sports personalities killed during the 1994 Genocide, is set for 5 to 8 June.
Chema competes in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men’s Division Two League under coach Jeremiah Mukopi and are currently ranked fourth with 13 points from six matches.
The experienced head coach says the side will use the tournament to expose their players on the international stage.
Mukopi, who has had stints at Kenya Airways, Equity Bank, General Service Unit, and most recently Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) before joining the division two side, is optimistic that the experience the team will pick in Kigali will be helpful as they chase two of the promotion slots to the top-tier.
“Our focus is on the league. We want to qualify for the National League. Our participation in the Genocide is an added advantage because we will gain experience that we hope will go a long way in helping us achieve our targets for the season,” the tactician told KVF media.
For his team to qualify for the top-tier league, Mukopi underscores the need to win all of their remaining matches.
The third leg of the KVF Division Two League is primed for 29 May to 1 June at the Nyayo National Stadium
At the end of the regular league, the top two teams in the lower tier earn promotion to the National League, while the bottom two in the top tier are relegated to Division Two.
