Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 08.04.23. | 12:47

The event is contested every year in Kenya and Uganda and counts towards the first round of the regional championship.

Uganda's motocross virtuoso Miguel Katende is among the riders Uganda will field against Kenya at this weekend’s FIM Africa Central African Motocross Challenge (CAC) slated for 8 and 9 April at the Uganda Motorsports Arena in Busiika.

The return of Miguel is a huge boost for Team Uganda, which is also fielding MX2 champions Fortune Ssentamu and Stav Orland, Gift Ssebuguzi in MX Lite and Alon Orland in the MX 125 category.

Stav, Sentamu, Alon and Gift represented Uganda well in Cape Town, South Africa in preparation for the Busiika extravaganza. The Ugandans headed down South to gauge their strength against top riders and indeed grasp new riding tactics.

The foursome flew the Uganda flag high during the South Africa nationals last Saturday with good results on their contraptions.

This weekend's CAC regional event in the Ugandan capital of Kampala has attracted riders from Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda. The event is contested every year in Kenya and Uganda and counts towards the first round of the regional championship.

It will also count towards the round three of Uganda’s National Motocross Championship.

Miguel, named 2022 USPA Motocross Sports Personality, after leading Uganda to victory in the championship, has been out of action for several weeks due to an injury.

The Katende brothers, Miguel and Johnathan, dominated the 65CC class last year, sharing first and second places over the three heats to claim a 1-2 position finish in the event.

This year, Johnathan is leading Uganda's Mx65 National standings and is also aiming to challenge for the Central African Motocross Championship.

Kenya has a strong team of 15 riders including the MX50 quartet of Jamatia Kagongo, Berry Notea, Uhrie Yongo and Amani Amani.

Kenya's MX65 troops comprises Liam Mbogo (KTM SX/65cc), Kigen Mutuma (KTM SX/65cc), Gisa Benzinge (KTM SX/65cc), Ethan Okello and Dylan Hatanga.

MX85 has Atete Benzinge, Chemain Kangogo, Lewis Ogonyi and Wahome Mutahi whilst Alex Kandie and Githuku Mungai will carry the country's flag in MX2 and MX1 categories respectively .

The event revs-off with Saturday's Practice and Heat One while the final two heats will culminate action on Sunday.

The final round of the 2023 CAC will be a return leg of the two-round series in Kenya around December.
