Reading Time: 2min | Fri. 04.04.25. | 15:18

KCB are the last Kenyan club to lift the continental title in 2022

Former African champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), Kenya Pipeline and Prisons Kenya begin their hunt for the 2025 CAVB Women's African Volleyball Club Championship on Friday 4 April in Abuja, Nigeria.

Kenya has missed out on the title since 2022 when the then Paul Bitok-coached KCB beat Al Ahly in Tunisia to lift the title, with Malkia Striker's Sharon Chepchumba named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Pipeline had the chance to make it back-to-back titles for Kenya in 2023, falling to Zamalek SC, 3-1, in the final.

In 2024, the oil merchants made the podium after beating KCB 3-1 in the third-place playoff match.

Five-time champions Prisons Kenya who dominated the competition from 2010, winning four in a row, their fifth having come in 2008, open action for the Kenyan teams at 6 pm.

They take on defending champions Zamalek in pool B that also has debutants Spiking Stars from Botswana, and Nigeria’s Chief of Naval Staff.

Former champions Kenya Pipeline Volleyball Club are preparing to engage with Rwanda National Police, Litto Volleyball Club from Cameroon, and debutants Club Omnisports Descartes from Ivory Coast, taking on the Rwandese Police side on Friday in their pool D opener.

Meanwhile, local league champions and 2022 winners KCB renew rivalry with the record winners Al Ahly in Group C, but open play with a match against Volleyball Club La Loi (VCLL) from Democratic Republic of Congo at 8 PM.
