As veteran volleyball tactician, Moses Epoloto takes over the reins of power at Trailblazers VC, skipper James Mutero is convinced the side could not have landed a better replacement for Geoffrey Omondi.
Epoloto who has been away from active coaching since leaving his head coach role at General Service Unit (GSU) brings with him a wealth of experience, having guided the paramilitary side to multiple titles and coached the national team, Wafalme Stars.
Skipper Mutero says the side, playing their fourth season in the top tier when the action gets underway on Thursday 31 October in Nyeri, is excited to play under Epoloto.
“Only two players, myself and Stanley Mutua were in action when he was coaching and the enthusiasm from the rest of the squad to see what he brings is palpable.
After our first training session under him, we already had an idea of what he requires from us and I am confident the remaining weeks will be a real game changer for us,” said Mutero.
Epoloto will be assisted by Bernard Oselu and a familiar face in the Leipzig University-trained Luke Opeto, his son. Player-coach Julliard Mbappe who has also earned his level two coaching badges completes the technical bench.
“It is a very dynamic bench with the head coach’s experience and Oselu’s long stay at the club marrying well with Opeto and Mbappe’s involvement.
The understanding between Epoloto and Opeto is also making sessions easier. I believe with the quartet we have a formidable side,” added Mutero.
The skipper pointed out areas he felt the new coach would help the side improve on.
“From just one session, I could tell the intensity was different and the coach was encouraging everyone to play to their strengths. He also has a different setup defensively which in effect will translate to better offense,” Mutero added.
