Record women's league champions Blazers are set to play returnees University of Nairobi at City Park on Sunday

Fireworks are expected at City Park on Sunday when top dogs Butali Warriors clash with Kenya Police in a Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) men’s Premier League game on Sunday at the City Park Stadium.

The game is the highlight of the weekend as the hockey leagues that kicked off a couple of days ago continue to gather steam.

The two giants head to the match after scooping medals in the Vaisakhi International Hockey Tournament held last week.

Butali who are defending champions, top the standings with seven points after three matches while Police are ranked third with four points having played two matches.

Butali will be hoping to revenge the 1-0 defeat suffered in the hands of Police in the past campaign.

The Zack Aura coached side was on course to stretch their unbeaten run to eleven matches but Police stood their way and scooped the bragging rights as well.

Meanwhile, a number of matches in the top, second and nationwide leagues are set to be played on Saturday and Sunday across different venues.

On Saturday, defending champions Strathmore University Scorpions are set to play last season’s second runner up, Lakers who have two matches in the weekend at City Park.

Scorpions beat Lakers home and away in identical 1-0 scoreline in either matches, but the Kisumu based club revenged in the Africa Cup for Club Champions after squeezing a 1-0 win over the students.

Strathmore lost their long-serving captain Gilly Okumu for Amira. The national team captain had served the university side for nine years.

Okumu joined Strathmore in 2013 after writing her final exams at Sinyolo Girls’ High School.

Record champions Blazers are supposed to play returnees University of Nairobi at City Park on Sunday while, Lakers are expected to complete their weekend double by playing Kenyatta University students at the same venue.

Kenyatta University are also making a comeback to the women’s top league.

Scorpions top the women’s league with seven points from four matches with Blazers ranking third with three points bagged in round one.

In the men’s Premier League, the 2016 champions Strathmore University Gladiators are expected to play returnees Sikh Union at the Dashmesh Stadium on Saturday with, Greensharks lining up City Park to play Sailors.

Both Greensharks and Sailors are winless in the season having lost their opening two matches of the season.
