Wolverines have now lost four matches in the campaign
Record champions Blazers have moved to two points within the reach of the Kenya Hockey Union women's Premier League leaders Strathmore University after thrashing DFG Wolverines 3-0 at City Park Stadium on Saturday.
Prior to the match, Blazers were placed fifth on the log, five points off the students but a win over Wolverines has seen them scale a place up as well as close in on the leaders.
Kenyan international Tracy Karanja gave Blazers the lead in the 14th minute before the fast-rising Eleanor Chebet doubling the advantage in the 43rd minute.
Joan Anjao placed the icing on the cake with just seconds remaining on the scoreboard. The result means that Blazers have recorded five wins while Wolverines who are hanging loosely above the red zone have now lost four duels this season.
Reacting to the win, Karanja who skippers Blazers noted that they played well but the team is yet to hit to its best owing to the long break that was occasioned by the Commonwealth Games.
The Union halted the women's competitions to create room for the national team that participated in the Games held last month in Birmingham.
"We may have gotten the three points but there are things we need to work especially on how we start the game and control the pace. It was a good show considering that we came up against a worthy opponent and it was the first after a long break," she said.
Wolverines assistant captain Jedida Zawadi regretted that lack of depth, fitness as well as Inexperience cost them the three points.
" We are a little bit disorganized as we only had a single player on the bench. We settled in the game late in the second quarter. We couldn't keep up with their pace as most of their players are in the national team. We have a problem of training together as our players are scattered in many cities," she said.
