Over 50 teams have expressed interest.
National women's volleyball team coach Paul Bitok is set to host more than 50 teams in Eldoret on 3 and 4 December for the inaugural Eldoret City Volleyball Tournament.
The tactician says preparations are in the final stages and while registration is set to open on Monday 21 November, over 50 teams have already expressed interest in featuring in the different categories of the two-day event.
“The event is being organised under the North Rift branch in conjunction with Paul Bitok foundation and Keino Sport event. We have already paid the tournament dues to the federation, settled on the venue which will be the Eldoret Sports Club and agreed on the dates.
North Rift branch is one of the best branches when it comes to hosting big events like Amaco International. The branch will be releasing more details for this event on Monday after meeting with sponsors and other potential investors,” Bitok offered.
The tactician is looking to tie down more sponsors before the date of the tournament thus allowing a better prepared event and more prize money for the podium finishers.
“With the right sponsorship, we are looking at having a prize purse that allows the winners of the main category to walk away with Ksh 500,000. We have made plans for awards for the self-sponsored teams and volleyball equipment donations for the school category,” Bitok explained.
Teams from Uganda and Rwanda have also expressed interest with Bitok confirming that the former is likely to field close to ten teams at the tournament that serves as a pre-season tournament ahead of the 2022/23 league action expected to serve off on 9 December in Mosoriot.
“With my experience in seeking sponsorship and organization, I would like to assure you that this is going to be one of the best tournaments in East Africa. Thank you all for being patient as we finalize with a few sponsors before releasing the official invitation on Monday 21 November,” Bitok offered teams.
