The next women's league leg is tentatively scheduled for 9 December when the new men's league will be serving off.
On the weekend, the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) held its fourth leg of the season in Mombasa but an unprecedented situation arose.
Only three teams showed up. This, after a majority of the teams called for the cancellation of the 2022 season which has been on hold since June but the last matches were played in May, with skme teams last playing in February.
League action went on in spite of the low turnout, with three matches, of 11 scheduled, played. The rest were given as walkovers.
Former champions Prisons Kenya were among the teams that were a no-show and while head coach Josp Barasa stereed clear of the conversation as to why the team did not honour the matches, he has called for better league planning going forward.
"We have eight teams in the league but we could not complete it before June?," he questioned. "This is a situation that could have been easily avoided. We would have managed to play the league conclusively, and also feature at the Africa Club Championship in time for the national team duty with proper planning."
With a busy schedule for the national teams next year, Barasa says the league risks falling in the same trap if proper planning is not done. "We have the calendar of events so this should not be hard to do."
The next women's league leg is tentatively scheduled for 9 December when the new men's league will be serving off and Barasa says he is preparing his team for action if approved by the management.
As it stands former champions Kenya Pipeline, the only team said to have been for the league continuation when the subject was up for discussion at the Annual General Assembly lead the standings with 12 points.
Title hopefuls KCB are second on a similar number of points, having played one more game than the oil merchants. Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) complete the top three with Prisons Kenya fourth.
