The top four teams are set to feature in the pre-season Super Cup.

Thika-based Amazon Women’s Handball Team came from behind in a Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) league match to beat Net Navigators 29-24.

The match played on Sunday 19 March at Nyayo Handball Court marked the Albert Mukoya-coached Amazon's eighth win in 18 matches.

A tightly contested first half saw Net Navigators head to the break with a slim 13-12 lead.

On resumption, Mukoya's half-time pep-talk seemed to have worked as his charges assumed lead and held on for the win.

In addition to the league points and placement at the conclusion of the season, this was also sibling rivalry at its best as the two teams are Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) affiliates, making the banter during and after the match that much intense.

"Coming into this match we needed to correct last weekend's mindset, put Sunday's losses behind us and play as a unit.

Having faced Nairobi Water and National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) in our last matches, I realised we struggled with fitness and that has been the key focus while preparing for this game.

I am happy with my players' mindset, they fought to the last whistle. They did not let trailing Net Navigators get to then. I am impressed with their mentality and happy with the win," coach Mukoya offered.

Valine Akoth led the team's charge for the win with 12 goals as she proved to be a pain for the opponent. Vivian Muntet and Christine Mwirigi scored seven and six respectively to add to the tally. Winny Akoth scored five for Net Navigators.

Meanwhile, Mukoya says part of his targets for the season have been achieved and with four more matches to the conclusion of the season, he remains hopeful of bagging maximum points in the remaining games to be in the league's top six.

"We have partly hit our targets and are on course to add some more. We have, however, failed in some so there is room for improvement.

I am, however, happy with the team's growth since the beginning of the season. We have been able to perfect some plays and are playing as a unit, something we struggled with earlier on," the tactician added.

In another match played on Sunday, holders and league leaders Nairobi Water Queens continued their unbeaten streak to 20 matches as they saw off Rangers HC 33-22.

With two matches left on their books, the Jack Ochieng-led Water seem to be on their way to yet another title. What remains to be seen is whether they will do it unbeaten, again!
