The event will be marking its second edition following a successful debut at Sabis last year

A total of 20 clubs have confirmed their participation in the Kiambu Masters Swimming Championships scheduled for Saturday 7 December at Potterhouse School.

The event will be the last masters event sanctioned by Kenya Aquatics this year, and follows Kenya’s brilliant impression at the Uganda Swimming Federation National Masters Swimming championship in September.

Harpoons Swimming Team, winners of the inaugural edition at Sabis International School - Runda, are among teams that will be in contention for the overall title alongside Dashing Dolphins, Nakuru Athletic Club, Hydra, Aquafest and Genesis.

The championship, which will attract over 300 swimmers, will be open to swimmers of ages between 25 to over 60 in two morning and evening events in a modern heated pool.

The events will include among others: 100m mixed freestyle relay, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50 butterfly.

Event organiser Joseph Ndung’u is one of the swimmers expected to make a splash in the over 60 years category, and spoke of the steps Kenya Aquatics has made in establishing masters swimming in Kenya.

“If you go to big swimming nations, masters swimming is a big competition that attracts thousands of swimmers and we hope that we can have a similar impact in our country,” the former military officer said.

Put out as a priority, Kenya Aquatics has managed to consistently provide competitions for masters swimming, and Saturday’s edition will work to the benefit of swimmers preparing for the World Aquatics Masters Swimming Championship in Singapore next year.

Saturday’s event will be sponsored by Yingfa Kenya, and will be followed thereafter by an exclusive coaches and swimming enthusiasts’ party.
