All golfers of a verifiable WHS handicap Index of 12.0 and below are eligible to play in the men’s only championship.

A stellar field of over 120 golfers is expected to line up for this year’s Kenya Amateur Strokeplay Championship set to be held at Karen Country Club between 17 and 20 August.

Being the 46th edition of the prestigious competition, the golfers will not only be looking to bag the sought-after gong but also land an early ticket to next year’s Magical Kenya Open as the winner gets a direct ticket.

The championship, dubbed “Kenyatta Memorial Bowl” is held in memory of Kenya’s first President, the Late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

The trophy was first presented in 1978 by KGU's first African Chairman Chris Kahara in 1978/79 and Col. M.J. Harbage the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) chairperson in 1977/78.

Additionally, the performance is important for the golfers as it counts towards their Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) points.

“We anticipate to have a field of over 120 golfers including elite amateurs from our neighboring countries. The players will be contesting for the prestigious title, an automatic qualification to the 2024 Magical Kenya Open, Kenya Amateur Golf Championship points, World Amateur Golf Ranking points and a prize kitty of Ksh. 520,000 where the winner will be walking away with Ksh 120,000,” KGU Tournaments Director David Ndung’u said.

Arrangements for the event are all set and the golf course is in the best condition to host the championship according to Ndung’u.

Additionally, the tournament director has clarified that all golfers of a verifiable WHS handicap Index of 12.0 and below are eligible to play in the men’s only championship.

The registration deadline is Monday 14 August 2023 at 6.00pm
