Kenya won six golds, five silvers and six bronze medals in the 2022 championships
The Africa Boxing Confederation Zone Three Championships initially set for April 11-18 have been pushed a week later to April 18-22, Zone Three Secretary General Lukelo Wililo announced on Friday morning.
The announcement, as per the Tanzanian Boxing Federation who will host the regional competition, comes due to ‘unavoidable circumstances’ that led to the change of dates.
“The teams will arrive on April 17 and depart on April 23,” Wililo, a Board Member of the Africa Boxing Confederation (AFBC) confirmed to respective country federations. “I hope the new dates will suit the coaches, referees and judges course to be conducted by IBA instructors.”
AFBC Communications had in the event’s announcement ceremony on March 5 reported that the first BFT executive meeting involved talks that revolved around plans to have Star 1 coaching courses run parallel to the Zone Three Championships.
Kenya - who registered remarkable results in last year's championships with 17 total medals- have already confirmed participation in the five day tournament and will be joined by defending champions Democratic Republic of Congo, hosts Tanzania, Cameroon, Burundi, Somalia and Equatorial Guinea.

In the local scene, the Boxing Federation of Kenya on Friday morning confirmed the postponement of the Kenya Open Boxing Championships that had been scheduled for April 6-8 with Communications Director Duncan Kuria promising to give a rescheduled date soon.
April and May will be a busy calendar for Kenyan boxers as the IBA Men World Boxing Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan draw closer.
