Lakers take on GRA Ladies of Ghana tomorrow at City Park
Kenya Police hockey side fell to their first defeat in the ongoing Africa Cup for Club championships tournament, losing 5-4 to Egyptian side Sharkia in a tightly contested Pool B fixture staged at the Sikh Union club grounds on Wednesday afternoon.
It was the record champions Sharkia that kicked off events on a high as they quickly took the lead inside the first 180 seconds through a Elganaini Albdlrahman field goal.
In the thirteenth minute, the guests added their second, this time through their skipper- Ghobran Hossam to take a 2-0 first time lead.
The captain soon made it 3-0 before halftime leaving many stunned about Kenya Police's play.
Goals would rain as the teams returned from the break, with Zenhom Abdalla making it four zip to the Egyptians.
Kenya Police made a rally of their own late on with the scores at 5-1 to atleast put up a respectable full time scoreline.
Three goals in four final period minutes from Cheplaiti Moses, Danstone Wabwire and Willis Okeyo finished off the exciting encounter that had lots of implications.
Sharkia - with the three wins in three matches- now lead Pool B, with Kenya Police dropping one of their three games played.
GRA men from Ghana secured a huge 10-1 win over Tanzania's Moshi Khalsa to finally win their first game of the tournament.
Elsewhere, at the City Park Hockey Stadium, Kenyan side Lakers got their second win of the tournament as they downed Ghanaian side Army Ladies 2-0.
Lakers got into the lead inside the first 15 minutes through skipper Alice Aoko to lead 1-0 going into halftime.
Aurelia Atieno added the team's second goal in the third period to seal the victory that keeps alive their unbeaten run in the championships.
Lakers on Tuesday were awarded a walkover win after Nigerian side Kada Queens failed to show up for the tournament.
On Monday, the Kisumu-based side drew 1-1 with fellow Kenyan side Blazers.
In other results, Kenyan side Western Jaguars were handed a 2-0 walkover victory after Kada Stars (Nigeria) failed to turn up.
