Former national and East Africa boys’ volleyball champions Malava High School made a stunning return to the national stage, sweeping aside Gankanga Secondary School in straight sets at the ongoing Kenya Secondary Schools Term Two Games at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).

Malava, long overshadowed by 2013 East Africa champions Friends School Namwela, dominated the match with set scores of 25-20, 25-19, and 25-10 to boost their hopes of reclaiming the national crown.
The Western giants will today face 2023 national champions Ruthimitu Mixed from Nairobi in a decisive Group B clash.
A win would guarantee Malava a place in the semi-finals.
Ruthimitu heads into the must-win encounter under pressure after suffering a shock loss to Coast’s Mwaluphamba Secondary School.
Mwaluphamba took the first two sets 31-29 and 25-23, but Ruthimitu roared back to take the next two 25-21 and 25-17.
In the tense decider, Mwaluphamba held their nerve to clinch it 15-12.
In Group A, defending champions Cheptil High School from Rift Valley began their title defense with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-17) win over Furaha Secondary School from North Eastern.
Despite the defeat, Furaha earned praise for their spirited play, a marked improvement from their past performances.
Gogo Mixed from Nyanza also opened strongly, dismantling Central’s Kambaa Secondary School 25-18, 25-14, 25-16.
Cheptil will today battle Gogo in a top-of-the-table clash, with a semi-final slot on the line.
Furaha take on Kambaa in the other fixture.
In netball, former national queens Kaya Tiwi from Coast sent a strong warning after thrashing North Eastern’s Hon DM Amin 114-4 in their Group A opener.
Rift Valley champions St Joseph’s High School were equally ruthless, crushing Eastern’s Kajiampau Secondary School 96-9.
Today’s matches will see Kajiampau meet Hon DM Amin, while St Joseph’s take on Kaya Tiwi in what promises to be a high-stakes encounter.
