Pupils, teachers, parents and the community couldn't have asked for a better valentine gift after the leading gaming firm Mozzart Bet officially commissioned the state-of-the-art toilets at the Kwa Koko Primary School in Kithimani, Yatta.
In a bid to ensure that pupils learn in a conducive environment where decency is valued, Mozzart Bet constructed and handed over two modern ablution blocks to the institution on Wednesday in line with the company's Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) plans.
The massive block with the features of a modern toilet will serve the 212 pupils who school at the institution with the teachers using the other one.
Before Mozzart Bet answered to the call by the school to erect new toilets, the existing ones were in a deplorable state and posed grave health risks to the pupils and anyone using them.
However, those who associate with the institution have everything to smile for after the newly-constructed ones were handed over for use on Wednesday.
Mozzart Bet Country Manager Sasa Krneta who was the chief guest expressed satisfaction with how the project was executed and the impact it will have on the young learners.
"The hygiene and self esteem of the pupils is now secure. In February 2021, we sunk a borehole in Kola, Machakos county and when we returned for reviews in February last year, the principal confirmed improved performance, academic wise. The success of this project, I believe, will yield better results for Kwa Koko Primary School because they will be operating in an environment that is safe. They can solely focus on academics," said Krneta, who was accompanied by his deputy Bojan Korac.
Besides the toilets, Mozzart Bet extended generosity during the visit and donated one hundred desks to the school.
The firm's Marketing Manager Frank Ochieng confirmed that the project was the first of the many lying on the pipeline.
"We intend to do more in schools across the country," confirmed the marketing chief who termed the first project a success.
The handing over ceremony was graced by Yatta Member of Parliament Robert Basil Ngui, Kithimani Member of County Assembly Paul Mwanzia pupils from the host school, students from Kwa Koko Secondary School, parents and members of the community.
A team drawn from the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) and the Association of Gaming Operators Kenya (AGOK) were present to witness the handing over.
Judy Kiragu from AGOK who was flanked by a handful of colleagues hailed Mozzart Bet for the exemplary work done as far as giving back to the community is concerned.
"Mozzart Bet can be felt in the community through the CSR activities they have and continue to do. They have set the bar high and I would urge the other firms to borrow a leaf from them, " remarked Kiragu who spoke on behalf of the other AGOK members present.
At hand to echo Kiragu's words was the Assistant Director and the person responsibile in officiating matters touching on CSR James Amwayi who implored other gamig firms' to emulate Mozzart Bet and most importantly, conduct business the legal way.
"I am impressed with Mozzart Bet's programs that have a positive impact in the society. They are a good example to the rest in the trade," praised Amwayi.
Later on, Krneta who called on other corporates to deep into the community and bankroll noble projects, joined leaders present in a tree planting exercise, demonstrating the firm's efforts in conserving the environment.
Head teacher George Waweru lifted the lid on how deplorable the state of the ablution blocks were before Mozzart Bet offered to lend a helping hand.
"The old ones were almost caving in and couldn't guarantee the learners privacy and dignity. Before Mozzart Bet came with the good news, we were contemplating closing the institution but we have a reason to soldier on with confidence," narrated Waweru who joined the school on March 15 last year.
His sentiments were echoed by his colleague at Kwa Koko Secondary School David Gichuki who spared time to witness the momentous occasion.
The two institutions share the expansive compound and facilities like playing ground.
Mozzart Bet sponsors top flight side Kakamega Homeboyz, the FKF Cup, National Women's Volleyball team the Malkia Strikers among others.
