KVF Playoffs: Prisons Kenya a win away from dethroning KCB

Having missed out on the league title since 2021, coach Josp Barasa is keep to guide his charges Prisons Kenya women's team to this year's Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) title. 

Playing holders Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) in a new-look best-of-three final series, the warderesses had a strong start, capitalising on KCB's disjointed play for a quick straight sets victory.

Barasa's charges had a strong start in the first set, going ahead 6-0 but the bankers mounted a comeback levelling the score and pushing Prisons to the wall, only to fall 26-24. 

The second set was a 25-16 dominance by Barasa's charges as coach Japheth Munala's charges struggled to even communicate amongst themselves, leading to many unforced errors.

The third and final set saw the bankers trail by a point in the opening half of the set only to give away points on poor service and some easy aces for the warders who sealed the win 25-17 to head to Game Two with a massive advantage. 

"I have to congratulate my players as this was not an easy win. The strategy was to start strong but KCB put up a fight in the first set that could easily have gone either way. Our services today were good and that gave us the advantage," Barasa told Mozzart Sport. 

The tactician is keen to get the job done on Saturday when the two sides clash in a crucial Game Two from 2 pm. 

"It will be no walk in the park but the plan is to seal the title on Saturday. Pipeline and KCB have won it in the last two seasons and this is our chance to reclaim the trophy," the tactician added.
