The rally which was originally slated for October has been pushed to June 28-30
The organizers of the Equator Rally Kenya have announced a change in the dates of the much-anticipated event.
The rally which was originally slated for October has been pushed to June 28-30.
The Kenyan leg of the FIA African Rally Championship will now take place from June 28-30.
In the past, the leg was used as a dry run for the WRC Safari Rally. Drivers would also gauge their preparedness ahead of the rally with the event.
Addressing the latest development, FIA Road Sports Department coordinator, Fabian Coulon noted that the change was brought about by the Equator swapping places with the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally.
Rwanda's national elections coincide with the initial date of June prompting her to call for the changes. The Gorilla Rally slated for Wanda has now been moved to October 25-27.
"The updated 2024 ARC calendar will be submitted for approval at the next meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council on February 28," an email to Commission members read.
Karan Patel and his partner Tauseef Khan are the reigning Africa Rally Champions after winning the series in a Ford Fiesta Rally 2 car.
