Among all famous German footballers, new Newcastle signing chose a surprise player
Nick Woltermade shook the Bundesliga world when he arose from the mediocrity and suddenly showed his skills while in Stuttgart. Before that, he was just a player in Werder, a club from his hometown of Bremen and even went on a loan to a third-tier Elversberg in 2023. The boyhood club even released him in 2024 and he signed for Stuttgart as a free agent, before exploding in the Round 8. Until the end of the season, he appeared in 33 games in all competition, scoring 17 goals. He will be a big signing in Newcastle, even thou he was overpaid for sure, but the Magpies were desperate to sign a striker and ended up forking out record 85 million pounds.

Many coaches are raving about him, Bayern Munich tried to get him due to his skills, since he can play both the striker and the attacking midfielder position, but after three unsuccessful bids, they gave up before Newcastle stepped up. And then he made an interesting remark, which soon flooded the social media networks. As he was recording a video for Newcastle’s social networks, he was asked a serious of easy questions, whose purpose was for team’s fans to meet with Woltemade better. After describing his playing style in one word (technique), he was asked who is his favorite Germany player of all time. After pausing a bit, the young striker (23), replied: I like Kai Havertz! The Arsenal forward is similar to Woltermade in his technique and various positions (striker, false nine, attacking midfielder), but many couldn’t believe that among all those favorite German players from the past, he chose a 26-year old footballer, who won the Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup (both in 2021 with Chelsea).
There are so many great German strikers from the past who won much more trophies and are true legends like Thomas Muller, or Andreas Moller, Michael Ballack, or strikers like Juergen Klinsmann, Lukas Podolski, Miroslav Klose Rudi Voeller, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge or Oliver Bierhoff. Interesting choice indeed...
