You'll never guess the only undefeated English club

All English leagues - except the Premier League, which began a week later - started in the second week of August. Once the competition in the top flight was officially open, 238 English clubs embarked on a journey full of joy and disappointment towards their leagues' titles, play-offs, promotions, and relegations.

Three months later, the 238 teams are still fighting their battles, but only one of them is undefeated. And it's not a Premier League or Championship side. Moreover, you'd have to search until the lowest league included - the seventh rank of competition - to find the "invincible" crew.

Chelsea lost already in the opening round, Man United six days later, and Tottenham a week after. Liverpool fell short against Nottingham midway through September, while Arsenal held out for seven rounds until October 19 and a defeat in Bournemouth. The Cherries were fatal for Man City as well, beating the Cityzens for their first loss this season in the tenth Premier League round.

So, which team remained the only unbeaten in English football this season? It's a team from the "Silk Capital of England" - after which the team was nicknamed the "Silkmen" - led by the former Leicester, Birmingham, Blackburn, and Derby (among others) midfielder Robbie Savage - Macclesfield F.C.

The club was founded four years ago after its predecessor, Macclesfield Town - a regular member of the fourth-tier League Two - were liquidated and expelled from the National League (fifth rank) because of financial debts and struggles during the COVID-19 crisis.

In the three seasons since their foundation, Macclesfield F.C. have been promoted twice. They are currently eyeing another promotion as they top the table of the NPL Premier Division (seventh rank) with 14 triumphs and two draws and 13 points ahead of their closest rivals.

The Slikmen showed no mercy for their rivals, just like their manager's last name indicates, and are on the right path of returning where they belong since their predecessor, Macclesfield Town, were founded back in 1874 and won the FA Trophy twice, in 1970 and 1996. Either way, the club's entire fanbase, as well as the management, Savage, and his boys, can be proud, as they'll be able to say that they once were the only undefeated team in English football among the 238 sides. That's priceless.
