According to Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish champions appealed to UEFA against the sanction imposed on the German coach and his assistant Markus Sorg, which had been issued due to inappropriate behavior following the Champions League semi-final second-leg against Inter in Milan. Tensions ran high at the time, prompting UEFA to initially bar Flick and Sorg from sitting on the bench for the next Champions League match.
Barcelona’s appeal, after a lengthy process, was accepted, and the punishment has effectively been lifted. More precisely, Flick and Sorg are now under a conditional sanction: if they repeat a similar offense within the next year, the suspension will automatically be enforced.
All legal costs of the process will be covered by Blaugrana, which, according to Mundo Deportivo, is the lesser of two evils. Most importantly, the former Bayern coach will be able to lead the team against the English side in the upcoming match.
