Reading Time: 4min | Sun. 28.09.25. | 20:39
In an electric atmosphere, in a match full of controversial decisions, Arsenal made a stunning return with 2:1. The Gunners complained about a denied penalty, but Gabriel’s last-minute goal made them forget all about it
A brilliant match at St. James’ Park! It had everything – stunning goals, controversial decisions, and absolute madness at the very end.
Newcastle went into halftime with a 1-0 lead over Arsenal, despite spending much of the opening period under heavy pressure.
Arsenal started brighter and immediately threatened in the 2nd minute, when a free-kick delivery from Declan Rice found Viktor Gyokeres, whose effort was saved by Nick Pope. Just minutes later, Eberechi Eze unleashed a powerful strike from around 15 meters, but Pope reacted brilliantly to deny him.

Bukayo Saka also tried his luck in the 7th minute after a strong run down the right, but the Newcastle keeper was once again equal to the task.
The first major controversy came in the 13th minute, when Jacob Murphy gifted possession to Gyokeres, who broke through on goal and went down under Pope’s challenge. The referee initially pointed to the spot, but after consulting VAR, the penalty was overturned.

Arsenal kept pushing and created a series of dangerous moments. In the 24th minute, Riccardo Calafiori headed just wide following a cross from the right. One minute later, Leandro Trossard, set up by Rice on the counterattack, struck the post with a fierce attempt. Newcastle responded quickly through Anthony Gordon, whose low shot in the 26th was comfortably saved by David Raya.
Arsenal’s dominance continued as Eze forced yet another fine save from Pope in the 29th minute, before Saka’s effort three minutes later was also kept out by the home goalkeeper.
But against the run of play, Newcastle struck first. In the 34th minute, Sandro Tonali delivered a pinpoint cross into the box, and Nick Woltemade rose highest to head past Raya, giving the Magpies a 1-0 advantage at the break. The goal is HERE!

The second half began with immediate drama at St. James’ Park. Just seconds after the restart, Nick Woltemade struck the crossbar with a fierce effort, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Arsenal responded with opportunities of their own. In the 55th minute, Eberechi Eze found himself unmarked around 10 meters from goal, but his volley sailed well over the bar. Two minutes later, Joelinton fired from the left flank, only to see his attempt drift wide of David Raya’s goal.
