During his time in charge, Folz presided over seven competitive matches across all competitions, winning four, drawing one, and losing two.
Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC (Yanga) have parted ways with head coach Romain Folz with immediate effect, the club announced in a statement on Saturday evening.
Yanga, home to Kenyan international Duke Abuya, confirmed the decision to dismiss the French coach following their 1-0 loss to Malawi’s Silver Strikers in the CAF Champions League second-round, first-leg match played in Lilongwe.
The decisive goal came in the 76th minute through forward Andrew Joseph, who finished off a swift counterattack after a fine exchange with midfielder Uchizi Vunga.
“The management of Young Africans Sports Club wishes to inform the public that it has terminated the contract of the Head Coach of the first team, Romain Folz,” the club said in a statement.
Yanga further expressed appreciation for his contribution and extended best wishes for his future.
“The management of Young Africans SC expresses gratitude to Coach Romain Folz for his contributions to our club and wishes him the very best in his future endeavors.”
To ensure stability ahead of the return leg against Silver Strikers on Saturday, 25 October, at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, assistant coach Patrick Mabedi has been appointed as interim head coach as the club begins the process of finding a substantive replacement.
“During this period, our team will be under the leadership of Assistant Coach Patrick Mabedi while the process of finding a new Head Coach continues,” added the statement.
The decision ends Folz’s brief tenure at the club, which lasted just three months. He took charge of Yanga on July 14, 2025, replacing Algerian tactician Miloud Hamdi. During his time in charge, Folz presided over seven competitive matches across all competitions, winning four, drawing one, and losing two.
