Xabi Alonso's mean machine with African engine: Leverkusen take no prisoners as Boniface shines

That was a brutal 3-0 away win. Set pieces brought to perfection, Granit Xhaka as a smooth operator and the Nigerian beast in the attack

Mark our words - Xabi Alonso is the next big thing in the coaching world!

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid star is doing a remarkable job at Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen. They are currently sitting at the top of the log with a few more teams with six points after the first two rounds.

After beating RB Leipzig in the opening derby 3-2, Alonso's mean machine bulldozed Borussia Moenchengladbach on their soil on Saturday night 3-0 to make a brutal statement.

The Spaniard's slot demonstrated state-of-the-art football, grabbing a win primarily thanks to impeccable set-piece routines. And African players.

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface scored his first Bundesliga goal to break the deadlock and added another one later - with the grace of an experienced poacher - for 3-0 to kill the game. After an assist against Leipzig, Boniface showed he's more than capable of delivering goals, too. Robust, quick and determined, the 22-year-old will be a menace Bundesliga defenders will struggle to get a hold of in months to come.

The second Bayer goal, almost a replica of that Boniface's opener, was another candy from Xabi Alonso's shop. Xhaka launched a superb cross, that found Hofmann and his back pass put Johnatan Tah in a perfect position to score. The defender of Ivorian origins reacted like a proper forward, and we got ourselves another beauty.

It's a true joy to watch Xabi Alonso's outfit on the turf and don't be surprised to see the promising tactician getting himself a new job at the end of the season. Maybe at Santiago Bernabeu, who knows...
