Ahead of today's match, Kenya Police Bullets are on top of the league table with 37 points, having regained the lead after their 2-1 win over Bungoma Queens in midweek.
Ulinzi Starlets are second with 34 points, while Trinity Starlets, who defeated Kenyan giants Vihiga Queens 2-1 in midweek, sit third with 34 points.
The relegation zone is a Nyanza affair, with Kisumu Allstarlets at the bottom with -4 points, two points less than neighbors Kisped Queens. Gideon Starlets from Homa Bay close the bottom three with 17 points.
Madira Soccer Assassins, who play Ulinzi today, are one place and three points above Gideon Starlets and will be seeking to increase their gap from the red zone.
A win for Ulinzu will take them to the top of the league table, at least before Police face Kisumu All-Stars on Tuesday, 24 March.
The league returned in midweek after clubs met FKF and agreed to suspend their boycott of matches, which saw teams give a wide berth to last weekend's fixtures.
The teams were decrying a myriad of issues that needed the Federation's intervention, including the lack of communication from FKF regarding the already disbursed FIFA Women's Development Fund and the delayed unveiling of a Women's Premier League sponsor, which had been promised for November 2025.
The clubs were also protesting the failure to disburse financial support to women’s teams by the end of the first leg of the season as earlier promised by the women's representative, and inadequate communication on when the Women’s Cup will kick off.
Additionally, the clubs took issue with the absence of a sponsor for the Women’s Cup competition and the requests by FKF for clubs to facilitate transport costs for Harambee Starlets players.
