The FKF Women’s Premier League (WPL) Round 18 matches continue today, Sunday, 15 March, with three fixtures lined up amid boycott plans.
Today’s schedule follows two matches that were set to be played on Saturday, 14 March, but failed to take place after some teams made good on their threat to boycott the games.
The match between Trinity Starlets and Zetech Sparks failed to kick off after Zetech stayed away, while Trinity eventually showed up at the venue.
At Stima Grounds, the hosts Kayole Starlets, were nowhere to be seen, while visitors, Ulinzi Starlets, and match officials turned up as scheduled.
In today’s fixtures, defending champions Kenya Police Bullets are set to face Kisped Queens, Bungoma Queens will take on Kisumu Allstarlets, while Madira Soccer Assassins will host Vihiga Queens.
Ahead of the matches, Ulinzi Starlets sit at the top of the league table with 32 points after benefiting from the walkover against Kayole Starlets.
Kenya Police Bullets are second with 31 points, while Vihiga Queens complete the top three with 30 points.
At the bottom of the table are Kisumu Allstarlets with -4 points, two points fewer than their neighbours, Kisped Queens. Gideon Starlets, with 17 points, complete the Nyanza-heavy relegation zone.
Kisped Queens vs Kenya Police Bullets
Police Bullets are the only team that did not sign the letter announcing WPL clubs’ plans to boycott this weekend’s matches.
The law enforcers are already in Kisumu ahead of their clash against Kisped Queens at Mamboleo Stadium, scheduled for 1500 hrs.
Police dropped to second place after Ulinzi benefited from a walkover and will be seeking a return to the top of the table at the expense of Kisped Queens, who have won just one match this season.
Bungoma Queens vs Kisumu Allstarlets
At Bungoma National Polytechnic, Bungoma Queens will host Kisumu Allstarlets from 1300 hrs.
Bungoma are currently eighth on the table with 22 points and will be favourites against Kisumu, who are yet to taste victory this season.
Madira Soccer Assassins vs Vihiga Queens
Madira Soccer Assassins, who sit ninth on the table with 20 points, will be looking to widen the gap between themselves and the relegation zone when they host Kenyan giants Vihiga Queens at Nyang’ori Grounds from 1300 hrs.
For their part, Vihiga Queens have an opportunity to go top of the table, at least before Kenya Police Bullets play, and keep pace in the title race.
