The FKF Women Premier League (WPL) match week nine concludes today, Sunday, 14 December, with the highly anticipated Kisumu Derby. Kisumu Allstarlets will host Kisped Queens at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu, with kickoff scheduled for 13:00 hours.

Trinity Starlets currently top the 12-team league table with 20 points, having secured a win against Kayole Starlets, opening a three-point gap over second-placed Ulinzi Starlets. Kenya Police Bullets and Kayole Starlets complete the top four with 16 points each.

Today’s opponents, Kisumu Allstarlets and Kisped Queens, are both at the bottom of the table with one point each and are joined in the relegation zone by Kibera Soccer Women. Both teams will see this match as an opportunity to record their first win of the season and kickstart their survival campaigns.

At this stage, Kisumu City faces the risk of having no representation in the WPL next season if either team fails to improve their fortunes. Kisped Queens, who have shown promise in recent matches, have been hampered by inconsistent goalkeeping and will be hoping for a stronger performance from custodian Eleister Opondo to boost their survival chances.

Coach Daniel Minjes will rely on his midfield duo, Tacy Olembon and Brenda Akinyi, to lead the team to victory against their local rivals.

The Kisumu Derby has historically attracted strong fan support, especially from the lakeside city, and a lively turnout is expected at today’s fixture.

In other week nine matches, Zetech Sparks were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Madira Soccer Assassins on Friday, 12 December. On Saturday, 13 December, Trinity Starlets secured a 2-1 win over Kayole Starlets, while Ulinzi Starlets defeated Gideon Starlets 1-0. Bungoma Queens thrashed Kibera Soccer Women 3-1, and Kenya Police Bullets and Vihiga Queens played to a goalless draw.
